Geomagnetic Model Calculator

The calculator utilizes the most recent versions of the World Magnetic Model (WMM) and the World Magnetic Model High Resolution (WMMHR) and outputs magnetic field values, annual variations and associated uncertainties of all the components. The WMM is a core-field model with spherical harmonic degree and order n=12, equivalent to approximately 3,330 km resolution at the equator. The WMMHR integrates both core and crustal fields with a significantly higher resolution (n=133), providing detail down to approximately 300 km. The models are produced by the United States’ National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the United Kingdom’s Defence Geographic Centre (DGC). CIRES/NCEI and the British Geological Survey (BGS) jointly developed the WMM and WMMHR. All latitude and longitude inputs are geodetic coordinates, and altitude values are referenced to the WGS84 ellipsoid.
